A cult film in its native Japan, PINOCCHIO 964 stretched the boundaries of the cyberpunk horror film established by TETSUO: THE IRON MAN. Pinocchio is a sex cyborg cast out by his owners into the world. Wandering aimlessly, he comes across derelict Himiko, and together they try to eke out an existence for themselves. But Pinocchio's creators are loath to let him drift and risk capture, and so seek him out to destroy him. Shozin Fukui, who was an assistant on TETSUO, explores the concepts of bodily invasion and the relationship between man and machine like a Japanese David Cronenberg.
