This DVD release pairs up two obscure 1980's horror efforts:THE PIT (1981) - A put-upon pre-teen boy with social problems finds his means to revenge when he happens upon a pit in the forest filled with hungry troll-like creatures.HELLGATE (1989) - A group of college kids travel to the ghost town of Hellgate to find out the truth about a young woman who was murdered by a motorcycle gang in the 1950's. Made in 1962 on an extremely low budget, Herk Harvey's classic CARNIVAL OF SOULS has become legendary for it's ability to create a tensely creepy atmosphere with virtually no special effects. A young woman (Candace Hilligoss) is involved in a car crash when her car falls off a bridge while drag racing with some friends. After she pulls herself from the river, she moves to a new town to take a job as a church organist. Meanwhile, a distinctly eerie and hollow-faced man seems to be following her wherever she goes, while an abandoned lakeside amusement park beckons her with an almost gravitational pull. Harry Bromley Davenport`s cultish take on the ALIEN theme is not for the squeamish, packing an impressive B-movie shock. Sam Phillips (Philip Sayer) is kidnapped by aliens while playing with his son; when he reappears three years later, he`s not quite himself--with gory, splatter-filled results for his quiet British community. Maryam D`Abo, who went on to be a Bond girl in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987), distinguishes herself as an oversexed babysitter. In XTRO 2, Dr. Shepherd (Jan-Michael Vincent) is summoned to a top-secret facility where he is to help recover three scientists who have failed to return from another dimension.
But the mission becomes a horrible nightmare when they unintentionally bring back an insatiably bloodthirsty alien.
