This visually stunning action-adventure film, based on the best-selling novel by JAWS author Peter Benchley, stars Nick Nolte and Jaqueline Bissett as a couple on a romantic holiday in Bermuda. New Yorkers, David Sanders (Nolte) and Gail Berke (Bissett) are enjoying a much-needed vacation; while diving one day they discover the sunken wreck of a WWII freighter and unearth a gold coin as well as a mysterious glass ampule. Excited, they believe their discovery could be a long lost treasure, but they soon learn that their most valuable discovery is actually an ampule of morphine, one of thousands left behind on the medical supply ship. This discovery leads them into the hands of Henry Cloche (Louis Gossett Jr.), an extremely dangerous and powerful Haitian drug dealer who will stop at nothing to unearth the dangerous treasure. With the help of Romer Treece (Robert Shaw), an old treasure hunter, David and Gail soon realize that they have made a much more important discovery than the morphine and set out to keep their actual treasure a secret. Director Peter Yates's suspenseful film features death-defying dives and exquisite underwater photography. Posters of Bissett underwater in a T-shirt adorned many a dorm wall in the late 1970s.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Screen - 1.33Audio: (unspecified) - English, French Subtitles - English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai - OptionalInteractive Features: Interactive Menus

Dawn of the Dead (DVD) Dawn of the Dead (DVD) » Dawn of the Dead (DVD)

First-time director Zack Snyder remakes zombie master George A. Romero's classic 1978 gore-fest DAWN OF THE DEAD, wisely replicating only the basic elements of Romero's movie, and instead sticking to his own vision of a world overrun by undead flesh-eating creatures. The action begins with nurse Ana (Sarah Polley) waking up to discover her boyfriend has become a tasty midnight snack for a formerly cute neighboring kid. To her horror, she realizes that the whole town is in a similar state of ghoulishness, until she runs into still-alive cop Kenneth (Ving Rhames); the levelheaded Michael (Jack Weber); and Andre (Mekhi Phifer), a rebel with a pregnant wife in tow. As in Romero's original, the group heads for the local mall where they barricade themselves inside. More survivors surface, while in the outside world the zombies go about their day by slowly taking over the planet. Undeterred by the odds against them, the survivors plot, scheme, and enjoy their mall paradise. As they plan their escape, some incredibly gruesome special effects are deployed, often with a dash of wry humor added for light relief.Placing the messages from Romero's version--a funny, scary look at consumerist society--on the back burner, the 2004 version of DAWN OF THE DEAD instead concentrates on delivering a witty blood-fest. The zombies appear to have taken their cues from the fast-moving corpses of Danny Boyle's 28 DAYS LATER, and are generally much more agile than their 1978 counterparts. Director Snyder gets the balance between humorous set-pieces and plot development exactly right throughout, producing an enjoyable remake that can easily hold its own alongside the deservedly hailed original film.

This box set includes three of pioneering gore-meister Herschell Gordon Lewis's bloody masterpieces.BLOOD FEAST: Schlock king Herschell Gordon Lewis' magnum opus about an affluent Florida suburb terrorized by Fuad Ramses, an Isis-worshipping psychopathic caterer who tries to resurrect the spirit of the goddess by preparing a ritual feast of human organs. His intended dessert is former Playboy Playmate Mason, who, during one scene, reads her lines from a script on a nearby coffee table. Arguably the first horror movie to feature explicit gore. Also features a gripping tympani score composed and performed by Lewis himself. Incalculable historical and cult value. 2000 MANIACS: Three couples on a cross-country trip are detoured off the main road and find themselves in the middle of a strange ghost town populated by civil war casualties. They're all about to earn a red badge of courage.COLOR ME BLOOD RED: A demented artist finds that his paintings sell better when he uses actual human blood for his red pigments. Not wanting to use his own vital fluids, the artist begins killing his models and disemboweling them when his red paint supply runs low.DVD Features:Region 0Boxed SetFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Dolby Digital Mono - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Deleted Scenes/Outtakes Audio Commentary Bonus Feature/Short TrailersText/Photo Galleries: Stills/Photos - 1. Made in 1962 on an extremely low budget, Herk Harvey's classic CARNIVAL OF SOULS has become legendary for it's ability to create a tensely creepy atmosphere with virtually no special effects. A young woman (Candace Hilligoss) is involved in a car crash when her car falls off a bridge while drag racing with some friends. After she pulls herself from the river, she moves to a new town to take a job as a church organist. Meanwhile, a distinctly eerie and hollow-faced man seems to be following her wherever she goes, while an abandoned lakeside amusement park beckons her with an almost gravitational pull. The effective organ score enhances the film to great effect, as do the bleak landscapes of Utah's salt flats.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseFeatures Disc 1:Documentary on the 1989 Reunion of Cast and CrewRare Outtakes Accompanied by Gene Moore's Organ ScoreTheatrical TrailerIluustrated History of the Saltair in Salt Lake CityTHE CARNIVAL TOUR: Video Update on the Film's LocationsFeatures Disc 2:Extended Director's CutAudio Commentary by Screenwriter John Clifford and Late Director Herk HarveyExcerpts From Films Made by the Centron Corporation and Industrial Film CompanyEssay on the History of Centron from MENTAL HYGIENE, Ken Smith's Book on
