In the tradition of Wes Craven's seminal horror film THE HILLS HAVE EYES, Jeffery Scott Lando's SAVAGE ISLAND charts the limits of civil society when confronted with primitive forces of survival and brutality. Hoping for respite from their marital woes, Steven Harris (Steven Man) and his wife Julie (Kristina Copeland) travel with their infant son to the remote island home of Julie's parents, Keith (Don S. Davis) and Beth Young (Beverley Breuer). The island's only other inhabitants are the Savage family, a clan of backwoods squatters in direct opposition to the educated, city-bred Youngs. Like a combination of CABIN FEVER and DAWN OF THE DEAD, DEAD LIFE mixes the fear of viral contagion with the horror of the walking dead. Max is haunted by the death of his father, who was transformed into a flesh-eating zombie by a deadly virus. Many years later, the virus is spreading again through rural America, and Max must once again face his fears as well as the undead. He and a group of his friends will have to battle the zombies and escape town if they hope to survive. With a gritty, low-budget aesthetic and a hardcore metal soundtrack, DEAD LIFE is a return to the grim roots of the genre.
